Knowing which type of metals your handmade jewelry is created with is the most important tool you can have. Lux + Luca highly recommends you always buy 14k fill + Sterling Silver jewelry. You can sweat in it, you can swim in it, you can shower in + it will last a lifetime.
Lux + Luca earrings, rings, bar necklaces + circle charms will ALWAYS be made from 14k fill + Sterling Silver, so you can rest assured that you never have to deal with rust, turning green or allergies!
ARE YOU A BABE ON A BUDGET?
We do offer our cuff bracelets in base metals like Copper, Brass + Nickle Silver at a lower price point. Please be aware that these metals are made of RAW material + will therefore require polishing to remove tarnish + also have the potential to turn some wrists green. You can always slow this process down by painting clear nail polish underneath. Tarnish is NOT permenent when it is on a wipeable surface like a cuff or money clip. Just wipe away with brass cleaner or a jewelry polish cloth.
When in doubt- Choose 14k fill or Sterling.
This is the most common misconception when it comes to jewelry + the question I get asked most about.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE + WHY DOES IT MATTER?
14k gold fill means there are 14 layers of REAL gold heat pressured on to a brass core. This means that there are many layers of gold melted on to the brass. This means that your jewelry is safe in water, safe to sweat in etc. It doesn't turn green + can be worn 24/7.
Gold Plate means there is only ONE layer of gold over brass. This is an expensive way to wear cheap jewelry. What I mean is, once that gold layer wears off in water or turns you green when you sweat (mostly applies to chain + hard to polish things) , it will never be the same. You will have to keep spending that $23 over + over again. **** With that said, I do offer gold plated + gunmetal brass chains as options for those who prefer them. YOU CAN ALWAYS ASK ME TO MAKE THE ENTIRE PIECE IN 14K.
Base Metals like Copper, Brass + Nickle are the raw metals used under plated metals and the core of filled metals. I use these base metals as inexpensive alternatives in my cuffs + money clips. Yes- They require polishing. Yes- They turn dark in water (but tarnish is not permanent + can be easily wiped away).
Investing in yourself + in the jewelry you wear is the smart way to go. Always ask your favorite jewelry designer what their pieces of made of. If you're buying jewelry and its under $30, chances are- its cheap + plated + You deserve better.
